Become an NYSCLSA Student Board Member

Take the Next Step in Your Leadership

Are you a student in grades 9-11 looking to take your leadership skills from your local school to the state level?
The New York State Council on Leadership and Student Activities (NYSCLSA) is inviting schools to nominate one student to join the Student Board. We are seeking highly motivated students to help spread leadership across New York State and assist in planning the state and district conferences.

Being a representative on the Student Board is an honor and a privilege, allowing you to represent both your school and NYSCLSA.
Student Board Member Responsibilities
When you assume the role of a student board member, you are agreeing to the following responsibilities:
1. Meetings and Attendance
  • Attend all state board meetings (Spring meeting in Syracuse; Fall meeting in Albany or Syracuse).
  • Attend all scheduled virtual meetings.
  • Attend meetings with an adult (school advisor, district advisor, or parent).
  • Attendance is mandatory. You must notify the Director of Students and Student Board President prior to a meeting if you are unable to attend for an excused absence. One or more unexcused absences may be grounds for dismissal.
2. Leadership and Conference Planning
  • Actively participate in meetings by planning the state leadership conference and reporting on your district’s news.
  • Attend the fall state conference.
  • During the conference, you will be expected to run district meetings, host district elections, lead roundtables, sponsor a workshop, and complete other assigned tasks.
  • Work with your district to plan and host at least one district conference.
  • Facilitate NYSCLSA and student leadership in your district, including passing on information about conferences
3. Communication and Conduct
  • Respond in a timely manner to all communications.
  • Utilize a non-school Gmail account for Google Drive access.
  • Adhere strictly to the NYSCLSA Student Board Code of Conduct. Misconduct—such as disrespect, inappropriate behavior, fighting, possession of banned substances, or inappropriate social media use —may result in removal from office
